I’m not a crier. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve cried over the last two years- at least two of those times were because I was extremely drunk and couldn’t find my friends/shoe, and another was when I attempted to cry just to see if I could do it on cue.
That’s why I was extremely surprised at my behaviour when watching Marley and Me yesterday. I cried solidly for the last twenty minutes. Not just a few silent tears. This was a new experience. This was a downpour. I’m just pleased I was at home rather than in the cinema, because I would have severely embarrassed myself.

It’s not that the film was hugely entertaining- it dragged quite a bit in the middle and there were a few montages too many. But the ending was just so… sad. In a very quiet, very undramatic way.
The film is based on US journalist John Grogan’s autobiography of the same name. I’m not sure that I’d recommend the film, purely because I wouldn’t like to see anybody shed as many tears as I did yesterday. But give it a go if you must.

This is the postsecret I would have made if someone else hadn’t gotten there first…
David Sedaris is my literary flavour of the month. His collection of autobiographical stories Me Talk Pretty One Day is hilarious. Check it out. Don’t read it in public- I attempted to, but my uncontrollable laughter wasn’t very well received by the people next to me on the train.
